Its time to get weird.

What happens when two New York lizards meet in Japan and decide to make it official in Mexico? You—our hand-selected favorite humans—are cordially invited to witness the gloriously weird collision of our worlds.

Travel

First things first:

Stop reading this page right now and go check the expiration date of your passport. Look good? Have enough pages? Ok, please continue 🙂

If not, please work on your renewal ASAP!

Flying in

We recommend flying into MEX, not NLU. Fair warning, MEX might be the ugliest airport you’ve ever seen, but it gets the job done and is closer than NLU.

NLU is fine if needed, but it’s less convenient.

We encourage anyone who’s able to come a few days early to hang out and explore the city.

No matter when you fly in, we will provide transportation to Tepoztlán (where we’ll all stay Friday and Saturday nights).

If you’re arriving Thursday or earlier, you can easily and cheaply (like $10-$20) Uber from the airport to Mexico City proper – and head to Tepoztlán on Friday via our shuttles.

If you’re arriving on Friday, we will also provide shuttles directly from the airport to Tepoztlán. We 1000% do not recommend that you drive in Mexico City.

Tip – When you arrive, follow the green arrows on the floor to the electronic passport control gates. They’re easier and you don’t have to talk to an immigration officer.

Reminder – Monday 10/13 is a federal holiday in the United States.

Where to stay

CDMX

If you’re flying in during the week, you’ll likely want to stay in Mexico City (CDMX) until Friday. We recommend the neighborhoods of Roma, Condesa, Reforma, and Juarez (in that order).

Our favorite hotels are below but honestly, Airbnbs are so great here that we strongly recommend taking a look at those too.

  • El Alfonsa
  • Hotel Casa Cuenca
  • Rodona Hotel
  • Octavia Casa
  • Brick Hotel
  • Colima 71

As your token travel couple, we would be remiss to not remind you to check the travel portals for your credit cards as well, as the portals sometimes have good hotel deals (we got a great deal at Brick Hotel once).

Tepoztlan

We’ll all be staying in Tepoztlan (1.5 hours away from CDMX) Friday night and Saturday night.

Tepoztlán is a charming “pueblo mágico” (magical town), which means there isn’t a single hotel large enough to accommodate all of you. Additionally, traditional room blocks aren’t typically a Mexican thing in smaller towns like this. Instead, here are some spots we recommend:

  • Posada del Tepozteco (keep in mind that this is up a hill. Anyone who has trouble walking up stairs or hills should choose a different option)
  • Hotel Concierge Flor y Canto
  • Casa Naâmja
  • Casa Ehua Hotel Galería
  • Palacio del Cobre
  • Hotel Ciruelo
  • Hotel Boutique Teocalli (adults only)
  • Posada Hacienda Real

And if you’re feeling a bit bougie, we also love Amomoxtli (though heads up, it is walkable but further away from downtown. Pack sneakers or ask the front desk to call you a cab. Still worth it.)

That said, please feel free to find accommodations that best suit your needs and budget. We also recommend looking at Airbnbs in the area—there are some absolute gems with stunning views of the surrounding mountains!

Pricing tip: We’ve noticed that hotel prices in Tepoztlán fluctuate quite a bit. Every time we’ve looked, they’ve been different, so setting an alert for price drops is your best bet for getting the best deal.

Transportation: We’ll have shuttles running on a loop around town to transport everyone to and from the venue, as the venue is about 15 minutes from downtown. Please don’t try to walk…it’s not a nice walk to do in heels.

Fair warning: The road to the venue is… an adventure (would it really be us if it wasn’t?). It’s a bit bumpy, but we promise the destination is absolutely worth it!

Getting to Tepotzlan…
and back

Never fear! We will have buses to transport everyone down to Tepotzlan on Friday and back to CDMX on Sunday. They’ll run from Condesa, Roma and the MEX airport. If you miss the bus (you know who you are), an Uber will also take you to Tepotzlan (try to avoid the normal pink taxis if possible).

If you plan to stay an extra day or two in Tepotzlan, there are taxis and a bus terminal that will take you back to CDMX easily.

Timeline of Events

Wednesday

Optional Friends Meetup

If you’re a friend who’s made it to town early (we know y’all can’t resist a week in CDMX), we would be thrilled for you to join us for a get-together to reconnect.

When: Late afternoon
Where: TBD but Condesa or Roma
Attire: Literally what you’re wearing that day

Thursday

Optional Family Meetup

If you’re family on either side who’s made it to town early, we happily invite you to a casual get-together on Thursday evening to meet, mingle and catch up.

When: Late afternoon
Where: TBD but Condesa or Roma
Attire: Literally what you’re wearing that day

Friday

Today’s a travel and party day!

Around midday, we’ll have buses ready to take everyone in CDMX down to Tepoztlán. Then in the evening, all guests are invited to the Welcome Party, or technically the Rompehielos (“icebreaker” in Spanish).

Children are more than welcome! We’ll be serving tacos, so please bring any special food for them if needed.

Buses:

When: Staggered starting around midday (hotel checkout time).
Where: Pickup points in Condesa, Roma and at the MEX airport.

Rompehielos:

When: 7pm
Where: Restaurant Axitla
Attire: Funky casual. (Lookbook here)

Think funky patterned button-downs and slacks/nice jeans/nice shorts for the men and colorful dresses or pants for the ladies.

Please keep in mind that Matt is scheming a wedding gambling league and prizes will be provided for those who lean in the most. For example, if you’re deciding on accessories and have a chicken purse, a shrimp bolo tie, a mushroom hat, frog shoes or something in that vein, we beg of you – please wear it. Bring us joy with your ridiculousness.

Saturday

It’s the day! Everyone is invited to join us at Rincon Meztitla, a private property close to downtown Tepoztlán.

Shuttles will run in a loop around Tepoztlán to the venue prior to the wedding and at the end. Taxis will be on standby throughout the wedding for anyone who needs to slip out early.

Children are WELCOME! However, if you’d enjoy your night more without them, we are arranging for a fully certified babysitter for the night. Just let us know if you’d like to be included when the RSVP form is released 🙂

Ceremony and Reception:

When: 3:00pm
Where: Rincón Meztitla
Attire: Bright, Fun and Funky Garden Party (Lookbook here)
  • Refined but a little ridiculous
  • Bright, fun and funky
  • Look and feel your best, whatever that means to you – we want to see your full personality on parade
  • Please lean into what makes you, you
